The well-known African proverb, “I am because you are” is true to Peini’s ethos. We understand and embrace that Peini does not exist in isolation. We depend on our connections and community to create our environmentally-responsible and wholesome skincare products.
At Peini, we believe in beauty with a purpose and implement direct, quantifiable change in our community. Our fair-trade practices ensure that we source our raw materials from the Widows’ Shea Butter Co-operative in Tamale and Bolgatanga, the two largest cities in the north of Ghana. The shea butter is bought from the Co-operative on a fair-price basis. The women who are members of the Co-operative are given direct support, training and skills development by Peini to increase their production capacity. This enables them to earn a higher income from the shea butter they produce. The excess shea butter is used to create their own products, such as soap, to sell at the market.
